So I was reading…
…a post from a respectable recording engineer. Someone had asked for advice regarding the mixing of backing vocals. The response, from this enginner, was, “…..but you’re going to have to look out for low end muddiness and EQ to kill anything below 400hz, because that’s what you’re supposed to do.”
SUPPOSED TO DO??!!
One of the greatest problems I have with most people in the music industry is that they do what they believe is “supposed to be done.” There are no rules in the world of music (be it the art or the art of the business.) Those who succeed are the ones that make their own rules. Not because they are TRYING TO MAKE THEIR OWN RULES but because they’re doing what they want because THEY WANT TO.
Musicians, Artists, People that care about art,
YOU can’t paint a picture with someone else’s hand holding the brush. YOU are the author of the Book Of Rules. Fucking write it.
